Tea Talk on “The World Economic Recovery: Navigating Between the Positive and Pitfalls” PDF Print E-mail

You are cordially invited to the Tea Talk on “The World Economic Recovery: Navigating Between the Positive and Pitfalls” organized by MASSA Secretariat.

Dr. Thierry Apoteker, founder of Thierry Apoteker Consultant (TAC), will be speaking at the event. TAC is a private partnership, created in 1991, providing applied economic and financial research to financial institutions, international companies and multilateral organizations.  TAC’s expertise in international economics ranges from country risk studies and monitoring tools to policy-related research in international trade and investment.  It includes a sophisticated early warning system on crises in developing countries (RiskMonitor), customer-specific country strategy studies looking at medium- to long-term scenarios in emerging economies, and policy / advisory research.

Previous analyses show that 2008Q4 and 2009Q1 were characterized by an exceptionally massive, violent and synchronized economic collapse. First signs of stabilization soon emerged as early as March 2009, owing in large part to unprecedented financial and economic stimulus brought about by governments worldwide. Nevertheless, the unique nature of the recession calls for caution. These signs of stabilization are more uncertain than during normal cyclical swings. It calls for contemplation on the risks of “double-dip” i.e. W-shaped recovery where artificially supported pick-up observed gets drowned in a new wave of poor financial performances and renewed losses of confidence.

If the recovery is to hold, what will then be the engines, both in terms of demand components and of geography?  And what could be the intensity of the cyclical upswings when it materializes for good?  What would be the timing? And what are the key risks in such a scenario?

In the light of the above economic scenario, Dr Thierry will present critical elements of this questioning, share and discuss the results of TAC’s proprietary models and tools for cyclical and country risk analysis at the Tea Talk.

You are invited to the Tea-Talk to find out how the corporates could prepare for the new period ahead, after a crisis that will bring both short-term and long-term adjustments in the way the world develops.
